Ocean Asia Logistics was concurrently engaged in two high-stakes national projects: the import and delivery of dangerous goods runway paint for the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport expansion, and the secure transportation of ammunition for the Sri Lanka Army. Although these operations involved different cargo classifications—Class 3 flammable liquids and Class 1 explosives—both required the highest levels of regulatory compliance, security protocol adherence, and operational precision. Our team executed these mandates simultaneously, demonstrating our capacity to manage parallel, mission-critical logistics for both civilian infrastructure and defence sector clients.
The Katunayake component involved the importation of bulk runway marking paint classified as dangerous goods under international maritime regulations. Ocean Asia Logistics managed the entire DG import lifecycle, from overseas supplier coordination and shipping line bookings to customs clearance and port handling. Specialized equipment, including explosion-proof forklifts and grounded handling gear, was deployed for the safe unloading of flammable materials. Our customs brokerage division secured all DG-specific permits and liaised with Sri Lanka Customs and the Central Environmental Authority to ensure full regulatory compliance prior to transport. The cargo was delivered to the airport site under DG-compliant convoy protocols, with zero incidents or delays.
Simultaneously, our defence logistics unit was activated for the Sri Lanka Army ammunition relocation project. This operation required classified route planning, armed escort coordination, and real-time command center integration. Ocean Asia Logistics conducted joint reconnaissance with Army ordnance officers to identify the safest transit corridor, avoiding populated zones and high-risk areas. The transport fleet consisted of blast-mitigation vehicles equipped with encrypted communications and fire suppression systems. Loading and unloading were conducted within secure perimeters under armed guard, using anti-static tools and tamper-evident sealing. The convoy movement was executed with full operational secrecy and zero security breaches.
Both projects demanded rigorous coordination across multiple government stakeholders, including the Airport Authority, Sri Lanka Customs, Central Environmental Authority, and Sri Lanka Army ordnance and transport wings.
